If only some of these would come up in our yard!

I have never seen seeds for these plants on sale at a garden center. I am not sure if they can be cultivated. Even though they are white, they are plants. These plants are parasites--their roots tap into the roots of another plant and take the sugars from that plant. That way, they can survive without any chlorophyll. It would be wicked cool if this plant came up in our yard. Hey, we already have ferns growing like mad, why not Monotropa uniflora? You can also call it Corpse Plant.

I am a bit tired on this Memorial Day evening. I worked in the yard almost all day. I came in during the height of the sun--Noon to 3--but the rest of the time I was doing agriculture. It was way more intense than gardening. I ripped out sod from parts of the yard, put in extra soil & fertilizer, then planted, planted, planted. I put in most of the remaining seedlings. We now have eggplant, sunflowers, pumpkins, and lettuce in the yard. I will be taking pictures soon. We still have some lawn left, but not much!

Anyone have extra hostas? ivy? other shade loving plants? I have to work on the section of yard under the red pines next. Stay tuned!
