My greatest plant care error

I feel extremely guilty. I bought a pitcher plant like this one at the Whole Foods in Portland, ME, last summer and it didn't last through the winter. I think the lack of watering may have been a huge factor. But the plant was SO cool. It actually attracted a fly immediately after I bought it. I don't know exactly what else I could have done to maintain the pitcher plant, but I wish I had done a better job. That was the only time I had EVER seen a pitcher plant on sale at a store. Usually they are behind glass at a botanical garden or in the middle of a bog.

This picture is of one of the many pitcher plants we saw last summer when in the blueberry fields of Maine. The pond we were sampling had pitcher plants around a good portion of the edge. It wasn't the most beautiful location, right in the middle of blueberry fields, but the plants were cool. And the blueberries were tasty. Maybe I'll figure out the mystery of pitcher plant care if I find one for sale again.
