Robin Young is COOL!

Robin Young and Helper Monkey

Okay, so maybe that is a lame title, but I had to catch your attention somehow. Last night, NHPR hosted Robin Young at Phillips Exeter Academy (PEA) and I attended. Since I was early and volunteered, I got to fold programs and help hang up the NHPR radio poster on the podium. Next was a trip to the pre-event wine and cheese fest in another building on campus. When Robin finally showed up, traffic was hectic in Cambridge, she chit chatted with everyone. Here goes more name dropping, one of the people attending was NH Senator Maggie Hassan (D-Exeter).

Once the wine and cheese was finished, I headed back to the Forum Auditorium on the third floor of the Phelps Academy Center. PEA is a HUGE campus for a high school. There are only 1000 students but it looks like it could hold at least 3000. That is just me though. As for the talk, I was very entertained. Robin talked about how she got where she did by luck and skill. She has definitely had a long career but it has changed a lot--governess, television host, documentary film maker, and and radio show host to name a few. It looks like my career can be said to go along the same sort of circuitous route! There is hope for me yet.

I am very glad that I live in NH and I am very glad that NHPR hosts programs like this one. It was just the kind of night out I like. No smoke, no annoying music, and something interesting happening. I wonder what my next move will be. Oh, yeah, interning for the EPA, hopefully!
