It might not be spectacular if you are out of the zooplankton loop. The exciting news is I just collected a fourth species of Daphnia from the Old Durham Reservoir! Can you believe it! This is a species I've never seen before. Folks, meet Daphnia dubia! This is an extremely long daphnia--look at its long tail spine! If you need help with daphnia anatomy, check out the CFB Zooplankton Key's Daphnia anatomy page!
This is really cool! A fourth daphnia species in our local pond. It makes my life non-stop fun. Want to come for a sampling trip? I am going out tomorrow night to collect some Chaoborus. I will let you know how it turns out. Keep tuned to Sonya's Way!
