Another day, Another beautiful lake!

Sampling on Lower Sawyer Pond

Although it was a shorter hike today, it was a beautiful one! We also only had to carry a few pieces of equipment and just the inflatable boat--it fits 2 people! It was a 2 mile hike up to the Sawyer Ponds, but without canoes and 45 pounds of equipment, it really was an easy hike. The pictures from today make a case for everyone to hike up a mountain to go gather water samples!

In case you think we didn't do enough today, we did start out with a visit to the Bartlett Experimental Forest in the White Mountain National Forest. (If you check out the website for the White Mountain National Forest, ignore that picture on the front page. I don't think anyone in Conway, NH, has a digital camera!) We learned all about the movement of carbon in the woods. You should check it out sometime; it is VERY educational and very cool.
