My latest obsession

Isn't it ironic? A Hello Kitty MOUSE! Posted by Hello

It may seem odd that as an adult graduate student in Zoology who usually HATES anything pink, that I am starting a collection of Hello Kitty products. Yes, that would be odd normally, but let's remember that I am odd to begin with. (Thanks to Sarah Sloka, I know that next year I will be even again.)

My Hello Kitty bug was awakened earlier this year when Tye Kindinger, an undergrad in our lab brought in her birthday present--a Hello Kitty coloring book. That triggered the memories. I remember when I first saw Hello Kitty products. Katerina had lots of Hello Kitty stuff way back when I lived on Gilbert Avenue and she lived across the street. Now, in reality, she might have only had one Hello Kitty product, but in my young mind, she had tons. I, of course, didn't have any and no one would buy me stuff. Again, I might not have gotten any Hello Kitty stuff because I didn't ASK for Hello Kitty stuff, but I digress!

Now flash forward to the present and my fasination with Ebay. It is the greatest website in the world if you are cheap but want stuff. There sure is a lot of stuff on that website. And if you put in "Hello Kitty" at the search box, you can find all sorts of stuff. So far I have only gotten three things, but they are winners! I have a set of Hello Kitty stationery. Well, not a set, more like a jumble of 50 sheets of paper in 50 different designs. I also got a set of 3 Hello Kitty pens with string for hanging around your neck in pink, purple, and blue. Of course, true to form, I can't find 2 of the 3 pens, but since we are moving next month, I figure I will find them then.

And the best by far is the Hello Kitty Mouse pictured above. Not only does it have Hello Kitty on it, IT SPARKLES! That is right folks, it changes from blue to red to yellow slowly then cycles through the colors very quickly over and over and over when it is plugged into a computer. Some people would think that would drive me NUTS. However, since I am already there, it can't do much damage. And, to quote Jessica Trout-Haney, another undergraduate in our lab, "It is like a non-stop party!" I say go get your own in either Tigger, Hello Kitty or Snoopy and have your own non-stop party.

I almost bought myself a pair of Hello Kitty flip-flops at Payless Shoes last night, but Gabby pointed out they would probably hurt my toes. I agreed. Maybe that isn't true, but I certainly didn't need them! I do think I have enough Hello Kitty stuff to keep me satisified for a while, but you never know. I just might have to get myself the Hello Kitty cell phone! Hey, it is supercute. (is that even a word? Sanrio.com says it is.)

Let me know what Hello Kitty stuff you have in your closets and drawers! Have a great day and don't forget to vote for Derek Lee in the MLB All-Star race. June 30th is the DEADLINE!
